My mom had a 59 when it was an ordinary used car , years before I was born. Traded it for a 61 Impala convertible, another ordinary used car. Now she drives a white Camry.

My dad says one of his brothers had one back in the 60s but of course the top was a constant PITA given that it was just an old car by then.

IIRC they are very complex with lots of fiddly relays and switches. Fun to watch, but I don’t pine to own one.

7 electric motors and mechanical relays. I think they’re decently reliable if they’re well sorted, and a giant PITA if not.

They’re cool as hell, but imho a cloth top makes fewer compromises than any retractable hardtop.

Kind of like lambo doors. If you have them you have to show everyone the opening and closing event .

I bet a lot of them ceased working by the time they were 10 years old. When my mom had hers around 1967, I am sure it was a sub-1K car.

Yeah,
I’m
thinking
that
the
top
mechanism
will
tolerate
deferred
maintenance
about
as
well
as
German
V10.
